We want to save the people we love from themselves. It’s instinctual—the need to protect, to guide, to warn them before they step into the fire. We see it so clearly: the inevitable crash, the moment their choices will come back to haunt them. We watch as they speed down the track, mistaking the light at the end of the tunnel for salvation, when in reality, it’s just another train barreling straight for them. We try to wave our arms, scream warnings, plead with them to turn back. But sometimes, they don’t hear us. Or worse, they don’t want to.
We want to believe that we can unsee what we already know. That maybe, just maybe, the outcome isn’t as obvious as it seems. But once you awaken, once you step into the light of awareness, you can’t unsee the truth. The illusion crumbles. The distractions, the self-sabotage, the cycles of suffering—it’s all laid bare. And the hardest pill to swallow? Realizing that we cannot interfere. No matter how much we love them, we cannot fight their battles. We cannot rob them of the lessons they need to learn.
So we stand back. We watch as they collide with their own consequences, as they stumble through the darkness we once knew too well. And it hurts. Every fiber of our being wants to step in, to shelter them, to carry them through the storm. But sometimes, love is letting go. Sometimes, the most profound act of care is allowing someone to face their own journey, even if it means watching them suffer.
Not everyone is meant to walk beside us forever. Growth demands change, and change demands release. The truth is, if they are not growing with you, they cannot stay. It’s a painful realization, the moment you feel the space between you widening, the once-shared path splitting into separate roads. Your time together, no matter how beautiful, has served its purpose. And that’s okay. Every chapter has an ending. Every ending makes way for something new.
For those of us who have walked through the darkness and emerged on the other side, we know the truth: the pain was worth it. The nights spent in despair, the moments of breaking, the times we thought we’d never see the light again—they were all necessary. They shaped us, prepared us for the next chapter. The old had to be stripped away, washed clean like sand on the shore, to make room for what was meant to come. We grew because we had to. And now, as we watch those we love wrestle with their own darkness, we smile—not out of cruelty, but out of understanding. They are being prepared. Just as we were.
The question remains: will they awaken? Will they walk through the fire and emerge whole, or will they continue to cycle through the same patterns, trapped in the illusions that keep them bound to their suffering? Not everyone chooses the light. Some remain stuck in their earthly fears, clinging to the false security of repetition. They sleepwalk through life, unaware that they hold the power to break free. And until they are ready, they will remain in the darkness.
But for those who awaken, for those who embrace the pain, the transformation, the letting go—they will come to see what we now know. That everything, every heartbreak, every loss, every tear shed in the dead of night, was leading them to this moment. To the space where all things are possible. Where harmony exists. Where the weight of the past no longer chains them down.
So we walk forward, through the sea of sleepwalkers, knowing that some will awaken and some will not. Knowing that each of us must choose for ourselves. And in that knowing, we find peace. Because we understand the journey. And we trust that, in time, they too will see the light or be bound to return into the darkness until the flame that burns inside of them lights the way to all that is and all that will ever be.
