(Headphones on-Tycho-Awake)
Nothing happened today.
No collapse. No epiphany. No moment dramatic enough to tell someone about. The kind of day that would have terrified me once because it offered nothing to cling to.
I woke up without urgency. No need to check messages to see who still wanted me. No inventory of what I had ruined or was about to. The noise that used to greet me first thing in the morning didn’t show up.
That was the first sign.
I kept waiting for the craving. For the impulse to stir something up. To reach for a story, a person, a feeling sharp enough to remind me I was alive. It never came. The absence felt suspicious, like calm before a storm that refused to arrive.
I used to think stillness meant I was giving up.
Now I see it was withdrawal.
There was a time when nothing happening felt like failure. If I wasn’t unraveling, I must not be growing. If I wasn’t hurting, I must not be honest. I confused intensity with truth because intensity was easier to recognize.
Today didn’t ask anything from me.
No performance. No confession. No proving I’d changed or survived or learned the lesson properly. Went to the gym. I ate. I moved through the hours. I noticed the light shifting across the room and realized I’d been present for it the whole time.
That used to be impossible.
I thought peace would feel like relief. It doesn’t. It feels unfinished. Like a sentence without punctuation. There’s no applause for it. No witnesses. No rush.
Just space.
I understand now why people go back to the chaos. Silence doesn’t reward you. It doesn’t validate you. It just waits to see if you’ll stay.
I did.
Nothing happened today.
And that’s how I knew it was real.
