Food for Thought-They Were Never the Villain

(Headphones on- Villian -Neoni)

There comes a moment when the healed version opens the door one last time and lets the demon speak. Not to reopen the wound, but to end the story honestly.

This is that moment.

They were not the victim.
They were not the villain.

Let me say that again, because it matters.

They were not the villain.

You just needed them to be.

It was easier to twist the story than to sit with your own guilt. Easier to assign a label than to admit you were wrong. Easier to say they were the problem than to face the truth that you were unwilling to take responsibility for how you showed up.

So you called them difficult.
You called them dramatic.
You called them toxic.

You said whatever you needed to say to justify your actions and protect your image of yourself.

And no, they were not perfect.
None of us are.

But they did not deserve the way you treated them.

They gave.
They cared.
They tried.

What they asked for was accountability. What they received was blame.

So you rewrote the past. You reshaped the narrative until it let you sleep at night. You convinced yourself that misunderstanding them was the same thing as being right.

From now on, they are going to let you believe whatever version of the story you need.

They do not need your version to be true.
They know who they are.
And the people who actually know them know too.

They are not here to prove their worth to someone who already decided not to see it.

So they are walking away.
Head held high.
Heart intact.

Your guilt is not theirs to carry.
It never was.

That is the truth.

And yes, they know you hate them.
They feel it.
They always did.

But while you sit with resentment, they are learning how to love themselves in the ways you couldn’t. They know what it was like to be with you. They are not jealous.

You are.

Because you know how deeply they loved.
You know what you lost.
You know what you will not easily replace.

And that is what eats at you.

You lost a good thing.
They gained themselves.

Here is the part you never admit out loud.

Even at their lowest, even when they were exhausted, even when they were breaking, you still treated them like a threat.

Not because they were dangerous.
But because they were powerful.
Because their presence held a mirror you did not want to look into.
Because their capacity to love exposed your inability to meet it.

They walked away not defeated, but finished.

And you are left with the story you told yourself.

They are left with their future.
