There is something powerful in expectation—not the weight others put on you, but the one you claim for yourself. To dance in your own shoes, to be unapologetically true to who you are, is to live in a rhythm that no one else can dictate. It is a choice to look no further than your own being to find what you want, what you need, and what you are capable of.
Growth is not a single moment. It’s a constant state of becoming. It’s experience layered on experience, determination sharpened by grit, and the refusal to bend into someone else’s mold. To expect the best from yourself is not punishment, not pressure—it is desire. It is the hunger to rise, not only for yourself but so that those around you have no choice but to rise with you.
This is not a lonely path, though it can feel like one. To dance with your demons, not above them and not below them, but beside them, is to understand your own shadow and still move forward. You don’t silence the darkness—you learn its steps and keep your pace.
Too often, we lower our vibration to match those unwilling to rise. We shrink so others can feel comfortable. But the truth is, you don’t owe anyone your dimness. Being authentic and purposeful means standing fully in your light without apology. There is no guilt in growing. There is no shame in being unevenly yoked. Sometimes, people cannot sit where you sit or stand where you stand. They aren’t worse, and you aren’t better—you’re simply different. And that difference matters.
There comes a moment when a decision must be made: to stand or to fall, to push or to be shoved. That moment cannot be delayed for the sake of someone else’s comfort. It is not your responsibility to parent adults, to force awareness onto those who choose to remain asleep. Some souls are still in their slumber, and you must let them be.
You cannot wait for the tide to rise before you learn to swim. You cannot wait for the storm to pass before you begin. If you keep holding yourself back for others, you’ll never truly step into your own life.
You don’t need to submit. You don’t need to shrink. What you need is co-residence: people who walk beside you, not people who demand you stay behind. A person without purpose drifts, but a person with direction—even if they aren’t “there” yet—is steady. Clarity of mission is the compass. The path may wind, the storms may come, but if your direction is true, you will not lose yourself.
You are not meant to be someone’s escape. You are not a shelter for the weary to hide from their own storms. You are a sacred tomb, a place of transformation, where the old parts of you die and the truest parts of you rise.
So dance in your own shoes. Expect greatness from yourself. Not because you have to, but because you want to.
