It doesn’t come from the outside.
It never has.
What you see—what you call art, creation, a masterpiece—started in a place that no one else gets to live but us. It isn’t always beautiful there. It isn’t even always safe. But it’s ours. And it’s where it begins.
The brushstroke is not a brushstroke.
The line on the page is not just a line.
The word is not just a word.
It’s a breath we couldn’t take. A scream we couldn’t let out. A love that had nowhere to go but here.
This is not therapy.
This is survival.
We work because we must. We create because if we don’t, the weight of the unsaid starts to rot inside. The silence swells. The colors go sour. The paintbrush grows heavy in our hand and the page mocks us with its emptiness.
It matters. It all matters.
The world might scroll past it, skip the gallery, close the book—but we knew. We knew that every inch of it was carved from bone and bleeding thought. There are artists—quiet ones, wild ones, disciplined and messy ones—who are devoted. Obsessed. Every angle intentional. Every decision divine madness. Every piece of it sacred.
We are not playing.
We are not trying to be cute or clever or marketable.
We are birthing galaxies and praying they don’t implode.
Sometimes it comes upside down. Sometimes inside out. Sometimes we have to bleed it backward until it makes sense in reverse. But it always comes.
And we stay.
In front of the canvas.
In front of the page.
In front of the sculpture half-shaped and screaming.
We stay.
We stay because the thing unfinished haunts us. It wakes us up at night. It follows us into the shower, whispers while we drive, lingers in the food we forgot to eat. It is never done until it says it is. And even then, we stare at it like it betrayed us by being finished.
But what we do echoes.
You don’t always see it, but it does.
What we cast out—onto canvas, into song, across screens—is no longer ours once it leaves. The universe takes it, molds it, gives it to someone else in a way we never intended. That’s fine. That’s part of it.
Because art is not translation.
It is transmission.
You won’t see what we saw.
You won’t feel it the way we felt it.
But if you’re lucky, you’ll feel something.
And that’s enough.
We aren’t here to be understood.
We’re here to exist. To persist. To thrive.
And if the art doesn’t come out of us, we start to die.
So we keep creating.
Inside out. Upside down.
Mad and holy and tired and aching.
Because there’s something in us that refuses to be quiet.
We are the artists.
And we are still working.
