The Watcher

It begins with a quiet hum.

Not a sound, exactly. More like the feeling of breath before it becomes wind. A signal so subtle most miss it unless they’ve sat still long enough to forget they were waiting.

I was the one waiting.
I thought I was the one watching.
But I wasn’t.

I was being watched—by something that lived behind my eyes.
Not above. Not beside.
Inside.

The days came and went like waves licking the same rock. Different only in angle. I moved through them like they were mine, claiming each thought, each ache, each moment of joy as me. But something was off. There were slippages in time. Repeats. Deja vu. A strange ache in the bones that didn’t match the weather or the years. The watcher was watching me watch.

And one morning, I cracked.

Not broken. Just cracked enough for light to get in.

I asked a question I didn’t expect an answer to:

“What are you?”

And the silence answered back like thunder hidden in soft rain.

“I am you before you knew you were anything at all.”

At first, I thought I was losing my mind. Then I realized I was finding it. Or maybe it was finding me. The me that existed before I learned my name. Before I adopted the stories. Before I wore the clothes of pain and laughter and tried to make them fit.

I began to witness life the way a mountain watches the valley. Still. Patient. Untouched by the drama but somehow always a part of it. I saw my emotions flicker like campfire smoke—real but not permanent. I saw my thoughts come in waves that weren’t mine, not really. They were…signals. Codes. Programs I was running without remembering who wrote them.

Somewhere between inhale and exhale, I realized:

The universe is trying to figure itself out.

Through me.

Through you.

Through all of us.

We are the skin it wears to feel.
The eyes it borrows to see.
The heart it uses to understand longing.

But here’s the twist no one warns you about:

We are not just the lens.
We are the mirror too.

And when I stopped reacting and just started watching—really watching—I saw the echo in everything. A smile that showed up at the right moment. A stranger who spoke a sentence I needed to hear. A song that played like an answer to an unspoken prayer. They weren’t accidents. They weren’t “coincidences.”

They were messages.
Breadcrumbs left by me…for me.
The Self, leaving clues for the Self, pretending to be lost in the forest of flesh.

And the watcher?
The one I thought was separate?

That’s the trick of it all.
There is no separation.

The Universe didn’t send me here.
The Universe became me.

And now, it’s remembering.

Through burnt-out days and quiet nights.
Through heartbreaks and belly laughs.
Through stillness and chaos.

It’s waking up inside the skin of us.

We are not fragments.
We are not broken.
We are pieces of the whole playing hide and seek with ourselves.

It’s not about becoming.
It’s about remembering.

And when the remembering happens fully—when the watcher and the watched become one—something wild takes place.

The Universe looks at itself and says:

“I know you.”

And Self replies:

“I am you.”

And just like that, the dream collapses into clarity.
The veil lifts.
The duality dissolves.

The child, the elder, the soul, the storm, the breath, the mirror—
All of it…

Just the Universe,
discovering itself.
In pieces.
In pairs.
In paradox.

And finally, in peace.
